Lottie + Doof = 2!

Two years, people. TWO years. Two years ago I decided to start telling you about what I was cooking.

Back then I was mostly talking to myself, but eventually you wonderful people found me. I am glad to have formed many online friendships, some of which have turned into real-life friendships. I’ve collaborated with some of my favorite people. I’ve learned so much from you and continue to be inspired by your comments and emails. I want to spend this week celebrating and I have some good stuff in store for all of us—recipes, guests and giveaways. It all starts today, when I am proud to debut the first ever Lottie + Doof merchandise.

Two of my favorite designers graciously agreed to create two tote bags for me (two! get it? two!).

Stephanie Waddell is one of my dear friends and the genius behind Agnes & Hoss, a textile design and home/personal accessory line that she ran for years. Her illustrations of natural objects are so wonderfully rendered. I love this strawberry tote bag which is perfect for a trip to the market.

Julia Rothman is an illustrator extraordinaire, whose work has been featured everywhere, including in the NYC subway! She recently published her first book (along with my friends Matt and Jenny!) and maintains the wonderful blog, Book By Its Cover. She designed this fantastic Lottie + Doof crest featuring, Lottie, me and an assortment of kitchen gear.

I am so grateful to both Steph and Julia for designing these wonderful bags and am excited to share them with you.

So, some of you loyal Doofers might be wondering how you can get your  hands on one of these tote bags. Well, you’ll have a few opportunities this week to secure your very own—starting right now! Leave a comment before Friday (9/10/10) that includes either your favorite fruit or your favorite recipe from Lottie + Doof and you will be entered into the give-away. I’ll randomly select a few people to receive a tote bag. Commenting not your thing? Stay tuned, there will be a couple of other opportunities later in the week.

Thanks again to all of you for making this site so fun. I am really looking forward to another year of cooking with all of you. Stay tuned for lots of fun stuff this week…

  6. Happy Birthday!! My favorite recipe has been your tomato soup; looking forward to fall and winter so I can start making it again. Thanks for your lovely work here.

  7. Your mac ‘n cheese, baby! That strawberry illustration is darling. What a way to celebrate your entry into the “terrible twos!” Congrats.

  8. Happy two years of blogging! I’ve been a longtime reader, but first-time commenter! My favorite L+D recipe is your recipe for graham crackers (it was also a great post about Lottie!)

  9. A very happy 2 years to you! Those bags are so completely perfect, I really love the illustration styles. As for my favorite recipe, it is hard to pick but it would be the graham crackers. I think I thought about you and your grandma the whole time I made them. Thank you Tim for this great space!

  10. These bags are so cute! Favorite fruit is pretty much anything from the summer, but I’m partial to nectarines and cherries.

  11. Happy 2nd Blogiversary! Great food blog. Great bags too!

[my favorite fruit is mango, always mango]

  13. Fresh Raspberries

  14. Congratulations on 2 years! I have been reading since 2008 when I found my new favorite recipe for tomato soup – https://www.lottieanddoof.com/2008/12/best-tomato-soup/

  15. Congratulations! I am a recent follower, all because of the amazing corn pesto featured earlier this summer. I absolutely loved it, as did a few friends who took my advice and made it themselves :) I’ll have to go through the archives and check out some more recipes soon!

    Keep up the great work!

  16. Fresh blackberries picked from the untamed bushes that grow wild in my backyard.

  17. Congrats on two years!!!! That’s awesome!

  18. Happy happy blogday! I recently made your quick spicy dill pickles for a catering event I was doing, they were such a hit and got eaten all up. The next day I made four more jars and ate them all in less then a week. I have been reading for a couple of years now and rave about the blog so much that I think you may now have a cult following here in Portland OR!

    Happy Anniversary, Senor Doof!

  20. Those are awesome! You’ve got some great friends there & I’ve always been a Julia Rothman fan. As for my favorite recipe: your blood orange tart. Your photo slays me.

  21. Wow, congrats! It sure goes by, doesn’t it? My favorite fruit…that’s so hard…is blackberries. Follow ever so closely by mango, blueberries, and strawberries. Yum! I LOVE your roasted beet and wheatberry salad. That is my kind of salad!

  22. Aw, thanks everyone for these great comments. I am having a hard time picking a favorite fruit myself. I had a plum in France that was the best thing I have ever eaten, so I am tempted to say plums. But, cherries make me really happy too. Hmmm….

  23. Happy 2 yr. anniversary! I love your site, both the recipes and pictures are equally fantastic!! My favorite recipe is the lambic beer sorbetto.

  24. Congratulations on two years of incredible blogging!

I absolutely love your Mac and Cheese recipe!

  25. Happy 2 year anniversary Tim! Reading your blog is always a great joy of mine- your recipes and photographs are always spot on. I’d have to say my favorite recipe so far has been for corn pesto (I’ve already made it a few times this summer) and that late summer raspberries are my favorite fruit.

  26. Happy birthday! My favorite recipe here is the lemon poppyseed shortbread. Fav fruit = cara cara orange. Keep on keepin’ on!

    V

  27. great totes! i’m a fan of your pasta recipes. your signature lottie + doof mac + cheese was delicious (come to think of it, i can’t understand why i’ve only made it once), and that corn pesto! amazing.

  28. my favorite recipe is either the tres leches or the caramel cake – could not choose between them – so sue me!!! ha ha ha
and fresh peaches – with the pink blush are my favorite.
    happy anniversary!!!

  29. Happy second birthday! I’m a big fan of your ANZAC biscuts!

  30. love your blog – i’m a newbie myself, but just wanted to say happy 2nd blogging birthday! x

  31. Even I totally botched the caramel topping the first time around, your caramel cake is dreamy! Those totes: almost as dreamy as the cake.

  32. Well happy blogging birthday! I love, love your new designs, I’m a huge Julia Rothman fan.
My favorite fruit would have to be apples in the fall, oranges in the winter, strawberries in the spring and peaches in the summer. I need options and seasonal fruits always the best, right?!

  33. Jacqui, I like how you are approaching the favorite fruit question. Very wise. Why pick just one?

  34. Happy Anniversary!

Favorite fruit? A perfectly ripe, sweet & juicy pineapple. But I’m always getting what is fresh & ripe.

  35. Congratulations on 2 years! The bags look fantastic! My favourite fruit is blueberries :)

  36. I’m just starting out in the blogging world and I can’t imagine what it feels like to be that far down the track! Thanks for all the inspiration – my favourite fruit is a fresh, juicy, messy queensland mango – lucky for me I live in Australia and that is achievable, at least in summer :)

  37. happy 2nd blogiversary!!! the bag illustrations look lovely. can’t wait to see what you have in store this week! my favourite fruit is the mango.

  38. My fav is the sour cream coffee cake. I adore it. Its my go-to for coffee cake now. 2nd fav is 12 days of cookies! That was a fab series of posts!

  39. Here’s 2(HA HA) many more years 2 come! The bags are beautiful! My favorite fruit is the raspberry. Perfect balance of sweet and tart, and it’s only good for such a short window once picked, fleeting perfection!

  40. Congratulations on the two years! I loved your mac and cheese!

  41. Congrats! Busy-day Cake is a go to recipe for me.

  42. Happy 2! My favorite fruit has always been carambola… I like to slice them when they’re chilled.

  43. Congratulations!!! My fave is actually how I stumbled across your awesome site… the Lebni Tart. I love your site and your photos are amazing… keep on blogging : )

  44. My favorite fruit. This is a really, really hard choice. However, when it all boils down to it, I would always choose savory over sweet, and that pretty much secures tomatoes as king.
After all, they are like a fruit & a vegetable, and I eat them ALL THE TIME when they are in season.

  45. Happy 2nd year! My favorite fruit is the Asian pear. (To me, it’s just ‘pear’. And equal YUM.) Thank you for blogging!

  46. My favorite recipe is the Pasta with Fresh Corn Pesto!!! LOVE it!! Your blog is great :)

  47. My family and I love your Caramel Cake!

  48. Congratulations on 2 years! I’ve only tasted them a handful of times in my life, but wax apples or love apples, grown in tropical climates, are so luscious. Crisp, juicy, sweet, and delicate… they are the perfect fruit, in my mind.

  49. Two years?! I started my blog almost two months ago and it’s already an ingrained part of my life. Can’t wait until I hit two years, too.

Hands down, my favorite fruit must be those black mission figs, which is unfortunate because they’re difficult to find for a good price (and good quality) around the Philadelphia area.

    Congrats again!

  50. Right now I can’t get enough blackberries. Those fat, almost purely black ones that are a little warm from the sun. Mmmmm… Congrats on two years!

  51. I would have to say that my favorite fruit is the Raspberry. There is no other fruit that captures so poignantly the flavors that induce thoughts and unearth memories of summers past… what a perfect little berry!

  52. Love the bags!

My fave recipe you’ve posted is Ina Garten’s rosemary cashews. I have loved that recipe for years, and seeing it here confirmed why I love you and your blog!

  53. Happy anniversary!

Favorite recipe would have to be a toss up between the Busy Day cake and the baked french fries. The busy day cake topped with strawberries and blueberries (my favorite fruits) might just edge slightly ahead :)

  68. Bene wafers! They became an instant classic for me. Thanks for 2 years of great recipes.

  69. Thanks, all, for these great comments and good wishes. So fun!

  70. The caramel cake. Yum! Though now, after reading the comments I have a bunch of new ones to try.

  71. Congratulations on two years!! I love your blog. My favorite fruits would have to be nectarines, and I adore your Orange Cinnamon Creme Brulee as well as the Arroz Verde al Horno. Thanks for a great blog and this fabulous giveaway
    xoxo from louisiana

  72. Congratulations! I have enjoyed so many recipes from your blog, but I think my favorite at the moment is the Milk-Braised Fennel.

  73. Do those apple jellies (from October 2008) count as a fruit? They certainly count as eye candy!
My favorite fruit is currently the peach. It’s so great in salads, pies, jams, baked goods and goes nicely with cucumbers. Congratulations on your success!

  74. Well, I’m afraid to say that quite a few of my colleagues have photos of the choc caramel porn, sorry, tart on their desks thanks to your beautifully photographed website! For pure visual stimulation the tart wins hands down, but when it comes to taste, I haven’t found a single soul who doesn’t adore your apple jellies – mainly served in our house with a stinky old stilton and some port in a post-dinner blow-out! So a big thanks to you guys for making me smile and giving me some true inspiration in the kitchen. Em x

  75. Congratulations! I have enjoyed peeking into your cooking adventures and look forward to more. I’ve sent lots of friends to your site to retrieve recipes they gush over (Warm Strawberry Crumb Cake, Baked Cinnamon Coffee Cake, Uva Bella, etc…). Thanks for all the great recs and pretty pictures. Keep up the good work!

  83. Happy 2 years!! The canvas totes look awesome! I happen to be in the market for one because I accidentally dropped one in the grocery store parking lot last week…it was a pretty big bummer because I’m quite fond of my canvas bags.

I’ve been following since Dec 2009….what can I say, the 12 days of cookies got me hooked. I’ve enjoyed every recipe I’ve tried….including the somewhat botched caramel cake. A regular recipe we make is your tomato soup (so yummy!). My boyfriend and I also LOVE the bacon and tomato pasta…I believe it’s under Pasta Night? Every time I make it and bring it to work, I see my coworkers eye it fondly. Oh, and the granola you posted earlier this year is another staple…yum! My next food project is the chocolate and caramel tart you posted, I hope I don’t botch the caramel!!

Favorite fruit?!?!? I probably have a different one each week, lol. Right now I’m on a nectarine, pineapple, and fresh raspberry kick. However, fresh Louisiana strawberries take the cake when they are in season.

  84. happy 2 years branch!!! you are inspiring.

  85. Your blog is one of my outlets for real inspiration. The simplicity of your layouts and your writing is lovley. I subscribe to a number of blogs and most days I don’t have time to read them but I make sure and open yours. I hope you are proud of what you have done, congratulations!

  86. Favourite fruit? It has to be mangosteen! Or mangoes. Or perfect peaches. Or maybe cherries. . .

It’s too hard to choose just one!

  87. I have made the cheese straws and they were awesome! They have been my favorite thus far…

  89. Congrats on 2 years!

I love the Chocolate Caramel Tart. I made it for a good friend as a late birthday present; we call it “the Candy Bar” because right out of the fridge when the caramel and chocolate are still solid it tastes like the most delicious, all-natural candy bar.

  90. My favorite recipe of yours is the lemon bars. I’ve made them twice and everyone loves them!

  91. Congratulations on your anniversary!

Favorite fruit = Jersey tomatoes–nothing like them, extraordinary flavor (you can taste the sunshine). And yes, tomatoes are fruit

  92. Baked Fries basically revived my relationship with my boyfriend. Congrats on two years!
    Favorite fruit – Dragonfruit!

  93. My favorite fruits to eat are peaches or Honeycrisp apples. My favorite fruit with which to cook are sour cherries. I came back from CA with a case of produce envy; it feels good to have something that is not available elsewhere.

I just tried your buttermilk cake with the caramel glaze, but my favorite recipe is still the Chocolate Caramel Tart.

  94. PS-Congratulations on your toddler blog : )

The Creamy Tomato Soup…& I have to confess why. I am one of the recipe testers for Cooks Illustrated magazine & this was one of the recipes that I was given to work with. I’ve been following your site for a while & always enjoy both the writing & the recipes. So imagine my surprise & delight when one of ‘my’ recipes is highlighted…woohoo! So my pick was pretty easy, because otherwise…oh boy, you have a lot of really great recipes.

  99. LOVE the cream cheese and chive biscuits! Everyone gobbles them up at brunch and then they’re too full to eat anything else. And my favorite fruit?… uh… Chambord!

  104. Congratulations on 2 years! I can hardly pick a favorite recipe, but the one I’ve come back to the most so far has been your Cranberry Vanilla Coffee cake. Every time I have to bake a cake, my boyfriend requests this one… and he usually hates cake. (Which I just can’t grasp… it’s CAKE!) As for my favorite fruit – I’d have to go with peaches. Either that or raspberries. Yum!

so many of your recipes are on my “to cook” list – i need to get on that. congrats on 2 years!

  114. My favorite fruit varies by season, whatever is fresh and ripe is my favorite.
I love your blog, I can’t believe it’s already been 2 years! I still remeber first stumbling across your beautiful blog when it was only a few entries in. Congrads! I really enjoyed the raspberry breakfast bar recipe.

  115. Happy 2 years! I am a relatively new reader but a Chicagoan and love all the references to places I adore and/or places I want to try. Thanks for spotlighting our great city!

Favorite fruit: Granny Smith apples, no question. First thing I ate after I got my braces off at age fourteen! And now we’re coming into fall and apple dessert time….yummy!

  116. I can’t pick just one! Here are 4 favorites (in no particular order):
Homemade ricotta with roasted tomatoes and crostini

    Marlow & Sons shortbread
    Pasta with fresh corn pesto

…..damn, this is making me hungry.

  126. Congrats on two years…hoping for many more! Fav fruit, no contest, strawberries!

  127. I’ve just found your blog (where have I been for the past 2 years?) happy blogiversary!
My favourite fruit would be my home grown alpine strawberries. They are small sweet and very very good. Best of all they self seed, this means they just grow and grow each year, how good is that!!

  128. Hmmm, favorite fruit, that’s tricky… I’m torn between yellow raspberries and kiwis. I also love the grapefruit-sized oranges from the tree in my grandma’s front yard. :)

  129. Well I’m excited at the idea of winning something, but if my luck stays the same as it usually does, I’d be just as happy to be able to buy!

I love nectarines, preferably white ones. An advert ran here in Australia last year with a guy crying on a cliff edge because it was the end of the stone fruit season and he was nursing his last nectarine for that year. I too feel a little like that when the season ends!
